Shaun Ellis and Family Shaun Ellis – Lead Pastor

Shaun grew up in Hayden, Al, a rural area north of Birmingham. After graduating high school, he spent time in the Marine Corps Reserves, working on a horse farm, doing construction work, pumping gas, and doing various other odd jobs before settling on what he thought was a career in aviation. After working for 4 years as a flight instructor, Shaun graduated from UAB with a degree in Secondary Science Education and spent 3 years as a high school science teacher. He finally discovered his life’s passion and work: to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Shaun spent 10 years as a youth minister in churches in Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida, and he has a MACE degree from New Orleans Baptist Seminary. Shaun still loves to fly, waterski, and camp, but he mostly enjoys spending time with his wife of 16 years, Tami, and 2 girls, Cali and Peyton.

Darren Swift – Student Ministries Director
Darren is from Marietta, Ga where he attended Sprayberry High School and played both football and baseball. He became a Christian his freshman year and God used sports and Student Venture (Campus Crusade for Christʼs High School and Middle School Ministry) as a huge tool in his spiritual development. After high school, he went on to play baseball at Reinhardt College before transferring to play at Augusta State University. He received his Bachelorʼs degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Sociology. After graduating college in 2008, Darren got involved with a local high school ministry where he was a leader and volunteer. He met his wife, Jenny, in high school but it wasnʼt until college that they started dating. They got married in May of 2009 and joined staff with Student Venture. Darren also took a job as an interim youth pastor and coached middle school baseball while they raised their support. However, after some time and prayer, he fell in love with the North Point model and it was obvious God was calling him to work in a church for un-churched people. Darren believes that developing and placing effective leaders in studentsʼ lives can lead to life change for students, their families, and their campuses. He enjoys hanging out with his wife; playing with their dog, Jasper; boating; Slopes BBQ; yard work; and watching the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, and Georgia Bulldogs (GO DAWGS!).
