He’s Still* Got the Whole World in His Hands
March 19, 2009
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been struggling lately. I’ve been struggling with confusion and uncertainty. What is the next step in my life? Will I be able to pay all my bills? Will I be able to get an apartment or buy a house anytime soon? Economic times are really rough right now. Searching for a job that will provide enough money for my wife and me has been a long and strenuous process and it isn’t over yet. I don’t know how all this is going to turn out. Have we faced the worst of it? I sure hope so.
So how do I respond to all this uncertainty? I was browsing through my iPod this morning before starting my workout and I ran across an Andy Stanley sermon that caught my eye. It was titled He’s Still* Got the Whole World in His Hands! This was exactly what I needed to hear. In the midst of all my confusion and uncertainty, God is still in control! Not only is he in control, but I think he is up to something BIG. In the sermon, Andy goes to the Bible and points out that the stories of the Bible were written in uncertain times. Think about when Jesus was betrayed, tortured, and executed. Think about what the disciples must have been thinking and feeling. Talk about uncertainty! They didn’t understand what had happened. They just saw their leader put to death right in front of them. But God was still in control! The story didn’t end in the tomb!!
Think about your favorite Bible story. It wasn’t just a story about how someone’s life was just great and they did great things all the time and lived a happy life, was it? No, the Bible is filled with stories that take place in uncertain times when people face difficult situations. This isn’t the first time in history when people have been scared and have asked where is God. If there was ever a time to read the Bible, it is now. Remember, in the midst of uncertainty, God is certain. He’s Still* Got the Whole World in His Hands!
